Familial Ménière's Disease: Clinico-Genetic Aspects

Current Research

Gavin Morrison's current research interests are as follows:

  • Participating as a co-author and surgeon in a Multi-national trial of low dose Gentamicin treatment using the IntraEar round window microcatheter, for Unilateral Meniere’s Disease.
  • Writing up "The Aetiologies, diagnosis and natural history of Positional Vertigo", original research involving over 400 patients. The work was presented in summary at The 9th British Academic Conference in Otolaryngology, Manchester, July 1995.
  • Continuing interest in positional vertigo with research into the management of BPPV using the canalith repositioning manoeuvre.
  • "Collecting" families with a strong family history of Otosclerosis for proposed research to find the gene responsible for this condition. Initial contacts have been made for this genetic study with Glasgow University.
  • Involved in research reviews of aetiologies and surgical treatments of neonatal subglottic stenosis.
  • Seeking an English language journal for the publication of "Acoustic neuroma with normal hearing - the therapeutic dilemma." an analysis recently completed with Prof. J.M. Sterkers.
